BILLIARDS.

MACONACHY V. MILLER. Clark Maconachy, the New Zealand billiards champion, conceded W. J. Miller, of Putaruru, 600 in a game of 1000 up in the latter’s saloon on Tuesday night. There were about 60 enthusiasts present and some pretty play was witnessed. The champion’s best breaks were 152, 194, 161 and 9S. Most of his points were scored by cradle cannons and off the red. It appeared that, the cushions of the tables troubled Maconachy somewhat, and this may be accounted for by the fact that the fire which occurred the previous Wednesday may have had some effect on the speed of the tablee. Miller did not get going with his usual skill, but on most occasions the balls were left very awkwardly for him. However, on his last visit to the table, with the champion’s score at 999, Miller aroused enthusiasm by compiling a nice break of 50. The game, which occupied 1 hour 40 minutes, finished with Miller at 911 when Maconachy ran out. Maconachy, who uses either hand with almost equal facility, at the conclusion of the match gave an exhibition of trick and fancy shots, wilier, were much appreciated. In a snooker match Miller won after being conceded 29 points.
