VALEDICTORY.
MR. S. W. THOMAS. A very pleasant little function took place on Friday afternoon, when the members of the local Post and Telegraph staff gathered together to bid farewell to one of their members, Mr. S. W. Thomas, who has been transferred to Matiere. On behalf of the staff the postmaster, Mr. F. J. Pretsch, presented Mr. Thomas with a gentleman’s toilet set as a token of the high esteem in which he is held by them, and in a few well chosen words wished him every happiness and success in his new sphere. Mr. Thomas suitably replied. The gathering then dispersed with expressions of good-will on all sides for Mr. Thomas’ future and deep regrets at his departure. Mr. Thomas, who has been stationed at Putaruru for the past fourteen months, has proved a very obliging officer and his genial demeanour will be greatly missed, not only by those inside, but also those outside the post office. The place of Mr. Thomas has been taken by Mr. J. N. R. Johnston, from the accountant’s branch, Wellington.
