EXPENSES OF COUNCILLORS.

NEW SCALE OF ALLOWANCES. The Department of Internal Affairs notified the Matamata County Council that as from January 1 the following expenses were payable to councillors attending meeting’s in terms of Section 6 of the Counties’ Amendment Act:— (a) Fare actually payable by most direct route from member’s home, whether the member uses a public conveyance or his own private means of conveyance; (b) where the above is not available expenses attached to use of own horse at rate of 8d per mile, counted both ways, together with actual cost of stabling or garage expenses, not exceeding 5s per night or actual cost of cab or other special conveyance; fc) when a member is obliged to absent himself from home or business living expenses at the

rate of £1 per day of 24 hours and a proportionate sum for any part of :i day. Cr. Allen: It’s not an Arbitration Court award. (Laughter).
