ARAPUNI MEDICAL CLUB.
TREATMENT OP MEMBERS. New Arrangement Made. The continued negotiations between the Waikato Hospital Board and the Arapuni Medical Club with reference to the treatment of workers resulted in a new. arrangement being decided upon at the last meeting of the hospital board. Under the new arrangement the board will take over the nursing and medical services at Arapuni as from February 1, and will receive all the fees collected, less 5 per cent to the collector. The district l.urse at present employed will continue in the position, and Dr. Haslett, of Putaruru, will be at call for emergency cases. Minor details are to be fixed By the chairman, medical superintend- < ent and secretary, and the position is subject to review in six months. The chairman, Mr. Campbell Johnstone, in supporting the new arrangement, .pointed out that unless the board took this step it would have to treat Arapuni patients free of charge. The fees collected at present amounted to £4OO, and if the board did not accept the position the club would probably go out of existence and the board would get nothing. Dr. Gower emphasised that while the board was accepting £4OO it was also taking over a £4OO liability. There were many expenses attached to the arrangement which the board, perhaps, had not taken into account.
The chairman stated that now the Public Works Department had taken over the works he thought the board could look for a subsidy' from the Government.
