THE NEW YEAR SHOOT. Success of Amundsen. Matamata Man Wins Medal. The Taupo Gun Club held a most successful shoot on Monday, January 2. The weather was fine and conditions for shooting were good. Visiting shooters from Auckland, Hamilton, Taneatua, Matamata, Napier and Hastings were present. A gold medal presented by C. Manning, Esq., of Napier, was given for the shooter securing the best first barrel average in the first four shoots. The winner turned up in J. Amundsen, of Matamata, with 56 points, J. McMullan, of Taupo, being runner-up with 55 points. Some good shooting was registered during the day by most of the shooters, while J. McMullan, of Taupo, broke 57 bird;: in succession without a miss. The first shoot was a sweepstake handicap of 15 birds:— J. Amundsen, handicap 16, barrel 121111111111111, total 15. D. of 6 birds. All competitors had to shoot from the 30-yards mark. W. Lewis, W. Woolven and J. McMullan each broke 5 birds. In the shoot-off W. Woolven was first, J. McMullan second and W. Lewis third.
