CLAIM FOR FURNITURE.
McDonald v. McDonald. Judgment for Defendant. On Friday morning of last week, Mr. W. G. K. Kenrick, S.M., was engaged at the Putaruru Court in hearing a claim by Herbert McDonald, of Putaruru, against his wife, Gertrude McDonald, in respect to furniture valued at £193 18s 6d, which it was alleged had been wrongfully taken possession of by defendant on or about 24th May last. Plaintiff in evidence alleged that when he went to work at Te Whetu he locked up his house, but later it was opened up and the furniture removed by some unauthorised person. Although the furniture was inslired in his wife’s name it belonged to witness, who had paid for most of it. Mrs. McDonald admitted having the furniture in her possession, and produced receipts showing that she had purchased it. She obtained the money by rearing chickens, selling butter, etc., when in Balclutha. The Magistrate thought the documentary evidence proved that Mrs. McDonald now owned the furniture. Judgment was given for defendant with costs.
