DRUNKEN MOTORIST.
LICENSE CANCELLED. R. Watts, formerly a taxi driver of Putaruru, appeared before Mr. W. G. K. Kenrick, S.M., at Putaruru on Thursday on a charge of being drunk while in charge of a motor car. The police said that on October 30 the accused went to Tirau and Okoroire while drunk, was refused at those places, and failed to take a corner on the Tirau-Okoroire road when returning to Putaruru. The car overturned and accused sustained a broken collarbone. The occupants of the car had a most miraculous escape. The police further stated that they did not previously know that accused drank to excess, but they had since found that he had been convicted on a similar charge at Cambridge. Accused had a wife, and eight children under nine years of age. The magistrate said that, taking into consideration the fact that accused had hurt himself and had been in *- hospital, he would not inipose a fine. He would, however, cancel accused’s license and disqualify him from applying for another until March 31, 1928.
A WALTON FARMER. Reginald Barkley, of Campbell road, Walton, was fined £lO and had;* his motor driver’s license cancelled* for two years when he appeared before Messrs. C. M. Gummer and W. T. Osborne, J.’s P., at Morrinsville to-day, for being- drunk while in charge of a motor car. The case arose out of an accident at Kiwitahi, where Mr. W. J. Ganicy’s car was damaged. Accused had been previously convicted on a similar charge only a month ago.
