SCHOOL SOCIAL.
A very successful social was held in the Arapuni Hall in aid of the school funds. The earlier part of the evening- was set apart for the children. A very pretty “ tambourine ” song and dance was performed by the bigger school girls, who were attired in gaily coloured Spanish costumes. Very pretty * lighting effects added to the charm of the dance, which was enthusiastically encored.
A waltz was then played especially for the children, who enjoyed it fully. After one or two dances for the adults a tableau and song, entitled “ The Dreamman’s Train,” was presented. Four or five kiddies ready for bed and watched over by two lovely guardian angels sang this little song, while the old dream-man in his train, drawn by numerous elves, invited the children to come for a ride with him. Supper was served for the little ones at ten o’clock, after which the grown ups took the floor.
Several articles were raffled during the evening, a beautiful baby’s frock being won by Mr. J. Barnett, a manicure set by Mrs. Eae, an electric torch by Miss Boord, a pair of slippers by Miss Ferguson, 250 cigarettes by Mr. Sampson, and a knitted jumper by Miss Smart. Towards the close of the evening two or three beautiful cakes were put up for auction by Mr. Finlayson, who created much amusement by his earnest endeavours to persuade “ Mr. Powerhouse ” to come on, and don’t let “ Mr. Spillway ” get the better of you.
The school will benefit to the extent of about £37, which in itself speaks for the success of the evening.
