MANURING FOR MILK.

EXPERIMENTS MADE*i The Value of Potash. “ We have been hearing- so much of. late about breeding for milk and feeding for milk that it is quite refreshing; to turn to another phase of increased., inilk production, namely, manuring formilk; and for this information. I amindebted to a report recently issued: ly the principal of the StaffordshireFarm Institute,” states a writer in: the Marklane Express. “ In justification of the experiment made, the report points out that improvements effected in postures by means of artificial fertilisers could be only measured by appearance, which,, at any rate ,is not exact knowledgeIt was therefore decided ttiiat the test of the trial should be in terms of milk, and consequently an equal number of cows were grazed on three plots—one unmanured, another treated with sup- } erphosphates, and a third with super and potash, careful records being kept in*each case of the milk produced.. The resulting figures, show very little difference between the first two plots* but the combination of phosphate and potash add.ed enough to the milk yield over the other two plots to allow a. good margin of profit after allowing for the cost of the fertilisers. ;So far this is very interesting, and it opensa wider subject, namely, the effect ot potash in a general way on increasing;, the milk yield.”
