MENACE OF ASIATICS. "Matamata County’s Support. At the last meeting of the Mataunata County Council the secretary of the White New Zealand League, with headquarters at Pukekohe, wrote asking for the council’s support in an endeavour to prevent the further influx of Asiatics to the Dominion. The council’s assistance was sought by resolution supporting the league’s objective and: by deputations to the member ef Parliament for the district asking him to make a personal to the Prime Minister. Cr. Allen Urged that a decided stand should be taken in the matter. There ■was no doubt in his mind but that -Asiatics were contaminating the white race, and he held that to a certain extent the league was working along the right lines. He thought the •council’s ready support should be given to the aims of the league. Cr. Judd moved that the letter he received, but no seconder was forthcoming. Cr. Anderson (chairman) said there was no doubt that around Pukekohe, where the league originated, Chinamien were becoming very thick, and “white people were feeling the effects of their competition keenly. After further discussion the council carried a resolution proposed by Cr. Allen deciding to support the league.
