■ PUTARURU v. HORAHORA. The above game was played on the Putaruru links last week end in ideal playing conditions. The meeting was a very successful and enjoyable one from a sporting point of view, though the visitors suffered a somewhat severe defeat. The visitors were welcomed on behalf of .the local club, and luncheon and afternoon tea was provided by the ladies. The matches resulted as follows (the Horahora players being mentioned first in each case): — - Foursomes: Bright and Swaney lost to F. G. Barnett and Dr. Halil ett, 3 down; Dinnie and' Dean lost to Wright and Robinson, 2 down; E. Tomalin and Grainger drew with/ G. L. Martin and C. D. Brown, ail square; F. W. A. Handman and- Thompson lost to J. Murphy and L. J. Sole, 2 down; Morris and Clark lost to R. Barnett and Nicklin, 1 down; T. Rabone and C. Jefferson beat S. Brown and Fred Tomalin, 1 up; A. Dalziell and Hutchinson lost to A. G. Leggat.t and W. S. Henderson, 1 down; D. Dalziel and J. Phillips lost to Frank Tomalin and” F. Beca, 2 down. Singles (IS holes): E. Tomalin lo'st to. H- Robinson, 2 and 1; VentrySmith lost to E. W. Wright, 3 and 1; Dinnie lost to C. D. Brown, 1 down; Dean lost to Frank Tomalin, 3 and 2; Grainger beat J. Murphy, 2 up; D. Dalziell lost to J. Total; Putaruru 21 games,' Horahora 3 games; 1 game drawn. In a happy speech at the close of the day’s play, Mr. W. J. Swaney. returned thanks on behalf of'the Horahora club for the excellent day’s sport which would be recalled as providingone of the most- enjoyable inter-club fixtures yet played in the district. Special reference was made to the splendid manner' in which the. ladies of the Putaruru club had assisted to make the day such : an outstanding success. Mr. Swaney concluded'"by extending a hearty invitation for the local players to visit the Horahora links at an early date.

Mr. A. G. Legg-att replied on;behalf of the local club and stated' that though Iris side .had secured a preponderance of wins, the games had been much closer than the score indicated. On behalf of the Putaruru club he had much pleasure in accepting- the invitation for a return game, when he felt sure another very pleasant day’s sport would be indulged in. (Applause). MEDAL COMPETITIONS. Great keenness is being shown this season by members of the Putaruru Golf Club, and some interestingmatches have been played. The membership has increased and the attendance at i 11.3 greens is maintaining a very high average. Various competitions have resulted as follow: MEN. First Monthly Medal.—L. Sole, 101 —26—75. Second Month'y Medal.—F. C. Barnett, 97—26—71. Eclectic Match.—J. Murphy, 46 10—36. LADIES. Monthly Medal.—Mrs. M. McDermott, 72—10—62. Flag Match (Mrs. Robinson's prize).—Mrs. M. McDermott carried flag to 19th green. On the Putaruru links on June 3 a mixed foursome competition resulted" in a win for Mrs. Nicklin and W. S. Brown, with a score of 57—14—43.
