STANDARD BUTTER BOX.

Details of a standard butter box, for export purposes, the result of elaborate experiments conducted l by the State Forest service, at the request of the Dairy Division, are given in the May issue of the Journal of Agriculture. It consists essentially of one-piece ends, five-eighths of an inch thick if white pine, or half an inch thick if silver beech ; one-piece sides, top and bottom, three-eighths of an inch thick if white pine, fivesixteenths of an inch thick if silver beech ; six cement-coated nails per nailing edge, 6D (liin) for white pine, 4D (l»in) for beech ; and one centrally-located galvanised strap of hard (unannealed) metal, half an inch wide by o.olßin thick. Spruce is not a suitable wood for this construction.
