HONOUR WHERE DUE.

BUTTERFAT PRODUCTION FIGURES. Publication of Breeders’ Names. Owners Take All the Kudos. Frequently we see published in certain journals the butter-fat production figures of high-producing cows, together with the names of the owner, but sometimes minus the names of the breeders of the cattle. This matter was referred to at the Matamata Jersey Breeders’ lecture evening by Mr. J. F. Vosper, past-president, and a pioneer Jersey Breeder of the district. Mr. Vosper said he had been surprised to note in a farming journal reference to cows bred by him, now belonging to Mr. A. E. Watkins, of Taranaki; three of whose best cows were bred by the speaker, but the paragraph made no acknowledgment. Mr. A. E. Missen, president of the Jersey Breeders’ Association of N.Z., said he thought that in such cases the breeders’ name should appear in parentheses alongside the figures in tabulated matter.
