“A STITCH IN TIME.”

MORE REPORTS WANTED. Those Potholes. At the last meeting of the Matamata County Council Cr. Darby urged that surfacemen and overseers, when travelling over the various roads in the county, should make notes of any particular work which needed immediate attention, such as broken culverts, potholes, and faults in bridges, and report these matters to the engineer. An estimate of the cost could then be attached to the reports, together with the amount of money available in the riding account, and a copy forwarded to the councillor concerned. Further full details of the riding accounts should be set before councillors at each meeting. Cr. Judd thought that in order to carry out the suggestion an extra assistant would be needed on the clerical staff. Cr. Anderson suggested that Cr. Darby confer with the engineer and the clerk and see what means could be devised to carry out the suggestion. This course was agreed to.
