NOXIOUS WEEDS.
A HEAVY' FINE. £lO and Costs. In the Putaruru Court on Thursday, two local farmers were charged with failing to clear their properties of noxious weeds. The Stock Inspector laid the information in each case. Arthur Ruthev r o”d (Mr. Portas;owner of a farm at Lichfield, pleaded guilty, through his solicitor, who stated that the mortgagee had taken possession of the property and had let it. While this was perhaps no excuse in flaw, it. revealed the hard position in which Rutherford was placed. The magistrate: I must look after the farmer who clears his weeds, forthese fellows just go on seeding, jgg A fine of £lO was then imposed. A Sutton, owner of section 5, block 9, Patetere North, comprising 225 acres, also pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to clear noxious weeds. The Stock Inspector stated that this was not a very bad case, as since the information had been laid defendant had done good work. The neighbours complained, however, of the dirty state of defendant’s farm. Sutton was ordered to pay £l, plus 7s costs.
