CHEQUE FORGED.

• AN EMPLOYEE’S LAPSE. The “ get-rich-quick ” idea put into action was responsible for the arrest at Hamilton on Tuesday of a young man named James Gothop, who had been employed by Mr. F. H. Barrett, of Hinuera. Information was received in the first place by Constable T. Keeps, Matamata, that a forged cheque for £lO, in favour of F. H. Barrett, and payable to J. Smith, had been presented to the Bank of New Zealand, Morrinsville, where the forgery was detected. As a result of enquiries the delinquent was traced to Ruakura, where he was arrested by Detective Culloty on Tuesday. He admitted guilt, and was brought before the court at Hamilton on Wednesday and remanded.
