LOCAL AND GENERAL.
i In another column will be found particulars of an invitation to all in- ! terested to attend a reception at the I new Methodist parsonage. The annual general meeting of the Putaruru Rug-by Union will be held- ' on Tuesday next, when a determined , effort is likely to be made to continue , the work already done and establish | .the game on a permanent footing-. j The Te Poi riding of the Matamata county is not going to let the elections pass by in apathy. There are already | two candidates in the field—Mr. Jas. i Bell (Te Poi) and Mr. P. Dee (Okoroire) —and we understand that there is a third contestant looming- on the horizon. The Hinuera Ratepayers’ j Association is inviting candidates to address the ratepayers in the Hinuera I Hall on Friday night. The members want to know the candidates’ views 1 now and are not satisfied to become . wise after the event. At the last meeting of the Matamata County Council Cr. S. H. Judd ! drew attention to the fact that a lorry j owned by a Hamilton business firm I which travelled regularly to Matamata ■ and Arapuni was driven at an excessive speed. The lorry had solid I tyres, and the speed, which at times was as high as 30 miles an hour, must be harmful to the lorry as well as to | the road. It was decided to write to , the firm concerned drawing attention ! to the lorry driver’s speed, and, if ■ this had no effect, that further action be taken. ] Advice that it held certain mortI gages upon properties in the Thames I Valley Power Board’s district and notification that it did not hold itself ; liable for any electrical equipment installed by the board upon any land | included in those mortgagees was re- | ceived by the Power Board at Tuesday’s meeting from the Auckland Co-op. Building Society. The society 1 added that it would also not allow 1 any charge under section 23 of the Power Boards Act, 1920, to be created ■in the future upon such land in | precedence to its security unless conI sented to by the society in writing ! before the installation commenced, j The letter was received. “ In Love With Love,” the Fox proI duction to be featured in Putaruru next Saturday, is bound to draw a crowded house. The leading- roles will be played- by Marguerite de la Motte, Allan Forrest and Will Walling, and the picture is a. very popular one.* Look out for Druids’ dance in May.*
