TRIP TO DUNEDIN.
PUTARURU BOY’S WIN. In Story Competition. Master Fred Voyce, of Patatere, near Putaruru, has won a free return trip to the Dunedin Exhibition, io a. story competition promoted by a Wellington journal. The competition was open to all school children in the North and South Islands, and drew a very large number of entries. Two tickets were offered, one for each Island, besides numerous other prizes. We have pleasure in publishing Fred’s essay, which is as follows:—• KING FISHER IN A BOTTLE. One day my brother Doug, caught a lovely green lizard. It was so pretty that we put it in a preserving jar to keep it for a while. Doug, put if outside on a gate post, in the sun. Then we all went away for the afternoon. When we got home we were surprised to find a king fishe- in the jar, but no lizard. The king fisher must have dived head first into the jar and gaten the lizard. Then when it tried to get out it would spread its wings and they would catch on the jar, and it could not get out. It took dad a long time to get the king fisher out- It was very savage, and he did not like to kill it. But at v last he got it out and away It flew. We all thought it very funny. ■
