CRICKET BALL.
ENJOYABLE SOCIAL EVENT. The second annual ball organised by the Putaiuru Cricket Association was held on Friday, in the Putaruru hall, when the weather was unfortunately at its worst. Despite the inclement conditions, however, about 50 couples turned up and a jnost enjoyable evening was spent. The hall was prettily decorated with ferns and streamers, and the must was supplied by the Arapuni orchestra’ the members of which received great praise for their efforts. It was/unfortunate that the weather conditions were so unpleasant for this is the second occasion that the Cricket Association’s ball has proved a financial failure, and thus a drag on the slender resources of the local cricket authorities.
During* the evening*, Mr. I A. G. Loggatt, president of the association, jip.sented the shield to the captain of Ihe Waotu team, Mr. Vic. Hansson. In handing over the trophy, Mr. Leggatt congratulated the players on the I standard in which the game was played, and also thanked the ladies for their cordial support during the season.
Messrs. W. R. Pass (president) and V. Hansson (captain) replied briefly on behalf of the Waotu club.
