NEW DAIRY FACTORY.
FOR N.Z.C.D.C. Erection at Morrinsville. Several years ago the New Zealand Co-op. Dairy Co., Ltd., promised the Morrinsville shareholders that a factory would be built at Morrinsvd’e, but the company then was not m a position to proceed with the work. On a number of occasions since, the directorate have been reminded of this promise, and a year or two ago agreed to place the Morrinsville suppliers on a similar basis to those with a factory in their district. In fulfilment of the original promise, the company has now decided to erect a factory in readiness for next season.
The factory, which is to cost approximately £25,000, will have a capacity of 1500 tons, with provision to be made for additions to the plant' so that it will be able to cope with 2000 tons. Erected, for the manufacture of butter, it will have equipment that will be the most up-to-date of its kind, with the latest labour-saving devices. The company’s Mt. Eden factory is at present considered to hold the honour of being the most up-to-date, but the equipment to be installed at Morrinsville will be the last thing in the dairy factory world.
. Although this new proposed factory 'will not be as large as that at Waharoa or at Frankton, both of which have a capacity of over 2000 tons, yet the size of the Morrinsville factory does not fall a great deal short of the two institutions mentioned, and as the supply will be drawn only from the Morrinsville district, it speaks well of the producing capacity of the land surrounding this town, especially as there is already there a butter factory manufacturing about 600 tons annually. The new N.Z.C.D.C. factory will have four large churns, provision to be made for the installation of two more as required. It is said that some of the factories in the vicinity were over-loaded, so that the erection of a new one at Morrinsville will relieve some of this congestion.
The site selected for the proposed building is to be on the company's property near the eastern end of the railway station, and on the Rotorua line side. The foundations were tested recently, and found eminently suitable for bearing the heavy machinery and general equipment of a dairy factory. The drainage, also, is considered to be excellent.
'ln order to finally approve of the site, Messrs. H. Sterling (general manager), C. Farlane (assistant manager) and the architect (Mr. Gilman) made an inspection on Monday. Tire plans of the proposed new building are not yet complete, but it is' understood that after yesterday’s visit, if the site is approved by the management, tne final plans and specifications will be drawn up.—Morrinsville Star.
