GARDEN PARTY.
FETE AT “ RAWHITI.” The annual garden party at “ Rawliiti,” held on Saturday, was favoured with gloriously-fine weather ancl proved a successful function in every way. The main attraction -was the tennis: exhibition by Dr. Laurenson and Mr. Wright, which was watched with j lively interest. There was also golf, arranged by Mrs. A. C. Vosper, and j croquet, in charge of Mrs. Brunton. There were several stalls, including : Fruit salad, Mrs. Radcliffe ; ice j creams and sweets, Mesdames Cooke and Hawes ; plain stall, Mesdames j Smith, Bates and Miss Sargeant ; I' produce, Mesdames Hurst and Brunton ; cake stall, Misses*Seed, Misses North and Paltridge ; bran tub, Mrs. Herbert Hawes ; refreshments, Mes- | dames J. F. Vosper, Hawes, Casiey and Waite. Music was discoursed by Mr. Bates and Mr. and Mrs. Lucas! A great attraction were the horse events in the paddock, where Mr. D. B. Higgins, assisted by Mr. Ellery and Mr. J. F. Vosper, took charge of the field in proper cavalry manner, and provided some very entertaining equestrian contests. The Gretna 1 Green was won by Mr. R. Steel and Miss Evelyn Ellery. After a hardfought battle ,Mr. H. Scherer (Waharca) won the sack event. Several other competitions were put through and the people were made to feel quite at home by the host and hostess (Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Vosper) after the manner which has in itself in no small measure helped to establish this annual function in aid of the Methodist Church as something to be looked forward to with delight every year.
