PUTARURU v. SELWYN. This match was played at Selwyn in cold wintery weather, and resulted in a win for the home team by ten wickets. Though the day was cheerless, it did not damp the sportsmanship of the players, and the game, despite the very adverse conditions, was most enjoyable throughout. The pitch was a splendid one, being perfectly true, and if not favouring fast bowling, was nevertheless not wholly a batsman s paradise, as plenty of work could be got on the ball. Selwyn won the toss, and no doubt gained much advantage through tne spin of the coin. Hollard sent the visitors in to bat, and thus his bowlers had first use of a new and dry Jjall. Showers during the middle of the day . made the ball greasy and ,difficult to hold, while later on again the ran cleared off. Selwyn took great advantage of the conditions, and were a far more solid team on the clay’s play. Details of the scores are as follows: —
