OATS AND LUCERNE.

A WELL-BALANCED RAT.XON. A successful tryout of growing oats with lucerne has been mad 2 by a Mangateparu soldier settler* Mr. M. E. Barrowclough. This farmer has a well-established plot of lucerne, and during last winter he sowed oats in between the rows of lucerne, the oats giving a supply of green feexl when the lucerne showed no signs x>f new growth. The oats was also the means of keeping the weeds in check. He cut the crops in November for ensilage, which, with botlj the lucerne and the oats, should give a well-balanced ration.
