DAIRY ASSOCIATION MEETING.
SOUTH AUCKLAND BODY. A meeting of the members of the South Auckland Dairy Association was held in Hamilton on Thursday for the purpose of discussing matters in connection with the . Dairy Control Board. Mr. S. A. Ferguson, of the Norfolk Co-op. Dairy Co. (Motumaoho), presided. The following resolutions were passed : That the secretary be instructed to write to the Hon. W. Nosworthy and convey to him the association’s best thanks for the very able manner in which he pioneered and championed constructive dairying legislation with the object of improving the export marketing for the farmers of New Zealand. That this meeting of members of the South Auckland Dairy Association, representing a very large proportion of the total of butter and cheese exported from this Dominion, wholeheartedly supports the Dairy Produce Control Board’s policy of improved export marketing of Dominion dairy produce. That this association reaffirms its support of the council system of election of the Dairy Produce Control Board, such council to be elected on the ward system on export tonnage basis, with some provision for the limitation of voting in the cases of the larger companies. That the secretary be instructed to circularise members of Parliament, informing them of this association’s unqualified support of the policy of the Control Board, and asking that they refrain from supporting any amending legislation until the board’s policy has had a fair trial. Cream Grading.—A letter was received from the Director of the Dairy Division stating that arrangements were being made for the adoption of a scheme of compulsory milk and qream grading. The secretary was directed to write to the Minister of Agriculture expressing the hope that
the necessary arrangements would be made without delay. That the Department of Agriculture be requested to supply information regarding the quantity of low first-grade and second-grade butter manufactured and exported from each province, and that the percentage manufactured or exported by proprietary and co-operative factories be shown separately. A resolution was passed congratulating the Hon. J. A. Young on his appointment to Ministerial rank. Mr. Peart, of the Raglan Co-op. Dairy Co., was appointed to fill a vacancy on the executive.
