THE SEASON’S HAY.

LIGHT CROPS GENERAL. As was predicted earlier in the season the hay crops are much lighter than during the past few seasons but they are by no means disappointing. The weather has been ideal for haymaking and all crops have been stacked in good condition. In occasional cases the crops have been a trifle better than in the past season but these instances are very rare. Each year ensilage appears to be increasing in favour among Morrinsville farmers who have a considerable quantity of winter feed to provide. It is stated that for small quantities of grass it would not be advisable to make ensilage, with which there is more waste than with hay. Quite a number of farmers who formerly relied upon hay have this season made ensilage. While many of them have prepared pits for the purpose, others rely solely on stacks, with which they consider they can obtain good results with less labour.
