BOWLING.
TE ARGHA TOURNAMENT. The finais of the Te Aroha tournament will be fought out to-day between Hikutaia, Paeroa and Ngaruawahia. Of the five Morrinsville rinks nominated the most successful was Coghill’s (Bodmin, Oates, Crowe and Coghill), which secured four wins and three losses. Until the last game Cog-hill was in his section. Harris’ rink secured three wins and three losses, and lost one by default, it not being necessary for them to appear on Monday. This was a good' performance, the skip particularly being responsible for good bowls right through. Cornish’s rink was placed in the position of being practically masters of their section on Monday without having a chance themselves. In the first two day’s play they had gone down, narrowly in four games, had two wins, but it still remained for them to play Gill (Mount Eden) to decide whether the latter would win his section outright. Stewart (Matamata), if he defeated Boles (Te Aroha), would' be in if both Petersen (Te Aroha) and Gill lost. It turned o*ut that Gill defeated Cornish on the last few heads, and both Petersen and Stewart lost, so that Gill got into the semi-final. Branch’s rink was practically eliminated on Saturday, when the winners of the section were found in Hikutaia, which won six games outright. Branch won two and lest four of his games, three of the losses being by one point and the other by five. Hikutaia, by winning the section, played Gill and in the semi-final defeated him to qualify for the final. Of the Matamata rinks the most successful was G. Stewart’s (W. Gale, N. Wallace, S. Sloane and G. Stweart) with four wins and three losses. As stated above, Stewart had a chance of being in the section tie had Gill gone down to Cornish.
Coc-te’s rink only got one win against four losses played, and two lost by default. The win was scored against the section winners, Clavis (Ngaruawahia). Morton was unsuccessful ,in any game and lost one by default. PAIRS. The pairs-tournament is proceeding, but up to last night only one game had been played, the most successful Morrinsville pairs being Needham and Moncrief and Bodmin and Coghill with one win and no losses.
