THUMB BLOWN OFF.
SHOT GUN EXPLODES. Man's Fortunate Escape. Although a young man named Leonard Bull had his thumb blown off by the explosion of a double-barrelled shot gun on Sunday evening he was very fortunate in escaping with his life. Mr. Bull was employed by Mr. F. Smith, of Kiwitahi, and accompanied by two others went shooting on Sunday evening. The party was standing outside a whare and Mr. Bull was leaning over the gun with his left thumb over both barrels. When the explosion occurred the thumb was blown completely off, blood was splashed on the side of his face and shot went through the brim of his hat. The victim reeled back and swooned, his friends thinking ire was fatally injured. None of the shot, however, touched his face. He was brought to Morrinsville, where he received medical attention before being sent to the Waikato Hospital.
