TE WHETU.

PRESENTATION. A very successful social was held in the South Taranaki Hall, Te Whetu, on Wednesday evening of last week, the function being held as a farewell to Mr. and Mrs. Martin who were leaving the district after a residence of over four years here. Mr. Butler had always interested himself in the sport of the community, and in football and cricket circles was a popular figure, while the school children will certainly miss a good friend, the annual school picnic being an affair in which Mr. Butler was always the leader in catering for the and welfare of the children. Mr. Butler was until his departure for other parts the chairman of the local school committee, in which body he took a particular interest;

During an evening interspersed with dancing and musical items, Mr. H. Hearn, on behalf of the residents presented Mr. Butler with a fine oak clock, suitably inscribed, and to Mrs. Butler a travelling rug. Cheers were given for the guests, and “ For They Are Jolly Good Fellows ” was heartily sung by the attendance. Mr. Butler suitably responded. Music for dancing was supplied by Mr. W. Randell, and extras by Mrs. Culpan and Messrs. W. Jensen, F. Pope and G. B 1 ay mires, all of which was much enjoyed. Musical items were rendered by Miss Peggy Walsh and Mr. H. Randell, both of whom were recalled for their efforts. The evening concluded with the singing of il Auld Lang Syne.
