PUTARURU SCHOOL.
COMMITTEE MEETING.
This month’s meeting of the Putaruru School Committee was held in the school on Monday evening. The members present were:—Messrs. F. C. Barnett (chairman), H. C. Wheeler (secretary), C. H. Woodgate, H. J. W. Scott and E. Nicklin. In reply to the committee the Education Board wrote that it would pay the cost of the material required for fencing the additional ground acquired for the school up to £l4 2s the cost as estimated by the committee on condition that the committee did the work free and that the owner of the adjoining section paid his share. These conditions having been previously agreed to, the committee arranged to put the work in hand forthwith. An invitation was received from the Mangatapu School Committee, per Mr. H. Geddes, for as many members of the Putaruru committee as possible to attend the opening of the new Mangatapu school on Saturday. The invitation was accepted with thanks. The Education Board in a circular advised that consequent upon an additional grant having been made, the allowance to school committees had been increased 5 per cent. The secretary reported that in the case of the Putaruru school this meant an increase from £SO to £52 10s per annum. Accounts amounting to £7 10s 3d were passed for payment. It was reported that a gift of cricket gear had been made by Mr. R. T. Smith towards equipping the school cricket team. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Smith. The headmaster (Mr. J. Gasparich) reported that the boys were undertaking a bottle drive for raising funds for further equipment.
