STOCK SALES.

MATAMATA. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Company held their usual sale at Matamata last Wednesday. There was a very fair yarding- and everything- was cleared at satisfactory figures. Dairy stock showed a marked improvement in prices, while store cattle and pigs met with keen competition. Prices:—Good store cows, 1 £3 10s to £3 16s; store cows, £2 :10s to £3 6s; other sorts, 18s to £1 15s; 18-months steers, £2 19s; dairy cows, £5 15s to £7 ss; 18-months Jersey heifers, £3 4s; Jersey heifers (springers), £9 to £9 15s; others, £7 5s to £8 10s; Shorthorn springing heifers, £5 to £8 ss; inferior sorts, £3 15s to £4 ss. Pigs: Weaners, 18s to £1 4s; slips, £1 6s to £1 11s; good stores, £1 15s to £2 Is. MORRINSVILLE. At Dalgety and Cods stock sale at Morrinsville on Thursday there was a good yarding of 'cattle, especially dairy stock, but very few pigs and sheep, none of the latter being sold. The prices were:—Beef: Fat bullocks, £ll 17s 6d; fat cows, £3 19s to £5 7s 6d; store cows, £1 10s to £2 10s; empty 18-month heifers, £1 15s to £2 10s; yearling to 15-months heifers, 17s 6d to £3. Dairy cattle: Good cows, £lO to £l6; others, £3 to £7; good heifers from Taranaki, £9 to £l2; others, £3 to £7 10s. Pigs: Weaners, 18s to 265. HAMILTON. At the Farmers’ AuctioneeringCompany’s stock sale in the Frankton yards on Tuesday there was a good entry of beef, fat and store pigs, a fair yarding of store cattle and a small number of fat sheep were penned. Prime ox and heifer beef drew keen competition throughout the sale. The specially-advertised line of 45 prime fat cows and heifers sold in conjunction averaged £l2 16s, prices ranging- from £ll to £ls 10s. All classes of store cattle met with a ready demand, fat sheep sold well up to late rates, fat pigs showed a further decline on the previous week, and also a slight drop in store pigs was noticeable. Beef: Extra prime heavy fat ox, £ls 2s to £l7; goodquality lighter, £l2 2s to £l3 ss; light to medium, £lO to £11; extra choice prime heavy fat cows and heifers, £ll to £ls 10s; four-year and fiveyear store bullocks, £5 2s to £6 15s; two-year steers, £3 12s; good-framed fresh and forward-conditioned cows, £4 to £4 ss; good-framed store cows, £2 10s to £2 17s; stores, 30s to £2. Sheep: Heavy fat wethers, £2 3s 6d; shorn fat ewes, 30s; extra prime fat hoggets, £2 0s 6d; lighter prime, 34s 6d. Pigs: Heavy baconers, £3 10s to £3 12s; lighter, £3 to £3 7s 6d; good porkers, £2 15s to £2 19s; light, £2 6s to £2 14s; store porkers, 30s to 395; slips, 26s to 325; weaners, £1 to £1 ss. WAIKATO MARKET REPORT. The Farmers’ Auctioneering- Company reports under date September 28:— Beef.—The market is still very firm

with prices about the same since our last report. Mutton.—There is little change in the price of fats, shorn sheep now coming forward and finding ready sale at firm prices. Store Cattle.—There is quite a move for all classes of stores, yearlings (two-year-okls) and grown steers being much sought after; also good inquiry for good heifers to go to the bull; store cows also being in demand. Store Sheep.—There are at present \ very few stores coming- forward, a ? few pens of hoggets, ewes with lambs and shorn wethers being- the only . class offering and finding ready sale at good prices. I Dairy Cattle.—The yardings are ! getting smaller but there is still a ! good demand for choice cows or good | heifers at profit. j Pigs -are coming forward in large numbers, with prices a good bit easier, especially for fats. The bacon companies are now operating at s«d. Stores are still selling well in comparison with prices ruling for fats. Horses.—Good heavy and medium draughts and farm sorts are in demand, light horses being dull of sale. We quote:—Bullocks: Prime, heavy, £l3 10s to £ls 10s; medium, £lO 10s to £l2 10s. Cows: Prime, £9 to £9 10s; medium, £5 15s to £6 10s; unfinished, £3 10s to £3 15s; stores, 25s to £2 10s. Steers: 3i-year, forward, £6 to £7 ss; 3£-year, stores, £5 10s to £6 ss; 2a-year, good, £3 10s to £4 ss; others, £2 10s to £3; yearling, £2 10s to £3 ss; yearling, medium, £1 15s to £2. Wethers: Prime, heavy, £2 5s to £2 10s; prime, medium, 38s to £2 2s; prime, shorn, 33s to 355. Ewes: Prime, heavy, 35s to £2; prime, shorn, 28s to 30s; light woolly, 31s to 335. Store wethers: 4-tooth, 32s to 345; 2-tootli, 30s to 325. Ewes in lamb: 5-year, 35s to 38s; sound mouth, 28s to 335. Hoggets: Fat, 30s to 355; forward, 28s to 31s; stores, 23s to 255. Pigs: Best baconers, £3 10s to £3 15s; medium, £2 15s to 7s 6d; porkers, £2 5s to £2 15s; slips, 35s to £2; weaners, 25s to 30s. Horses: Heavy draughts, £SO to £55; medium draughts, £3B to £4O; farm sorts, £2B to £33; harness horses, £lO to £l2; hacks, £5 to £l2.
