MATAMATA RAGING CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. A Successful Year. The annual meeting of the Matamata Racing Club was held on Saturday .night, Mr. P. Quinlan, president, occupying the chair. There was a good attendance of members. In his annual report the president congratulated the club on a very successful year. He thought the members of the club would agree with him that a considerable amount of this success was due to the Government, which for a second time lent a totalisator permit. Regarding the permanent permit, he was most optimistic. At »the present time one could not say definitely the fate of the Gaming Bill, but during the trip to Wellington, taken on the club’s behalf, he was informed by the heads of the Government that they are sanguine of the Bill becoming law. That being so, he was assured* that Matamata would be one of the first clubs to secure a permit. There was also an alternative. The view was taken in Wellington that if the Bill was not carried some clubs in the South Island would not be able to carry on, in which event Matamata’s claims for one of the forfeited licenses would be given mature consideration. BALANCE-SHEET.

The secretary (Mr. Price) read the balance-sheet, and in doing so said that on tht race meeting itself a profit of £724 2s 4d had been made. This did not include any items for interest or buildings. The previous year the club had a debit balance of Uabi'ities over assets of £364 7s 7d, but this year this was reversed, and the balance of assets was £1386 6s Bd. Included on the liability side were mortgages on land, £7315; totalisator house, £200; and debit balance at bank, £397 13s sd. In ihe assets were: Land, £7865; improvements to course, £480; fencing, £120; tote house, number board and barriers, £377; outstanding subscriptions, nominations and acceptances, £340.
