TENNIS CLUB. The annual meeting of the Tirau Tennis Club was held' in the Public Hall, Tirau, on Friday evening. Mr. J. Keane, president of the club, presided over a fair attendance of members. ANNUAL REPORT. ~ The annual report showed the club to be in a healthy condition. A number of new members had been enrolled and the prospects for the coming season were very bright. Work on the new concrete court was well under way. Thanks were due to the donors of different trophies and to the lady members of the club for the manner in which they had provided-. refreshments and entertainment. FINANCE. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £2l 15s lid. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
The election of" officers then proceeded as follows:—Patron, Mr. W. Hetherington; president, Mir. J. Keane; vice-presidents, Mrs. T. Little, Major A. M. Samuels, Messrs. J. W. Anderson, F. Rose, W. H. Allen, L. Bayly, M. Fitzgerald, M. Coubrough, E. W. Jordon, A. J. jNeville, M. Harrison. S. J. Bear, L. jßishop, S. Hetherington, G. Seton, W. Fitzgerald, W. Craig and A. Stewart; committee, Mesdames J. W. Rapson, W. Craig, Misses Hetherington, Stewart, Russell, Batley, O. Wine, Christie, Messrs. F. Fuller, J. Hetherington, D. Molesworth, M. Coubrough, J. Hawes, B. Gavin and H. Marsh; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. G. Wilson. EUCHRE PARTY. The last for the season of a very enjoyable series of euchre parties was held on Wednesday evening. The games, which were of a spirited nature, were participated in by over 100 players. The first prize for the ladies (a pair of pincushions) was divided between Mesdames Bonny and Goonan. The prize for the least points went to Mrs. Amoore. This was a packet of pins. The winning gentleman was Master J. Rapson, who played off with Mr. Bonny for the prize, a handsome box of chocolates. The least points prize, which took the form of bachelors’ buttons, was won by Mr. J. Bowers. All these prizes were handed over to the recipients by Mr. J. W. Anderson. The other prizes were presented by Mr. W. H. Allen, and they were for the aggregate points won during the season. The lady’s (a sunshine leather purse) went to Mrs. J. Keane, and the gentleman’s (a valuable trophy) was awarded to Mr. Bonny. These latter prizes were donated by Mr. J. W. Anderson. A very nice supper was served and dancing indulged in until an early hour, the music being supplied by Mrs. A. Stewart and other ladies, while Mr. F. Batley acted as M.C. During the evening Mr. J. W. Anderson thanked the organisers (particularly the ladies) for the great financial assistance that the euchre parties had proved to the hall trustees. PERSONAL. Miss M. Moore, formerly a teacher in the Tirau school, is spending a vacation with Mrs. Hamlin. Mr. J. Callaghan has now recov- , ered from his recent illness and has resumed work. Mr. G. Rollerson has not yet returned to duty.
