ON THE FARMS.

SEMI-OFFICIAL TESTING. The four pedigree Jersey cows which Mr. R. J. Wilson, Putaruru, had under semi-official test last season have now completed the testing period. One cow of the four gave 5201 b of butterfat and the others from 4141 b upward. Mr. Wilson is putting* another four under semiofficial test this season, while, also, of Mrs. L. E. Allen’s pedigree Holstein herd, Putaruru, two of the leading cows are this season under semiofficial test. The dairying season has now fairly started in this district and probably a majority of the cows have now come to profit. Light frosts in the mornings during the major part of August hindered the spring growth in the pastures somewhat, but warmer nights, with fine, warm days and occasional showers, are now the order, and the feed is coming away rapidly.
