CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
THE MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Putaruru Chamber of Commerce was held in the Elite Tea Rooms on Monday evening. There were present: Messrs. F. C. Barnett (president), J. M. Spear, C. G. Alcorn, A. R. Vosper, A. Beagbie, H. McDonald, Coslett, senr. and junr., G. E. Martin and A. H. Dukeson (secretary). LIGHT FOR PUTARURU STATION. A letter was received from Mr. F. F. Hockly, M.P., for the district, advising that he had recently interviewed Mr. Sterling, assistant gene-ral-manager of railways, who had assured him that the Putaruru railway station was well up on the list of those at which electric light was to be installed in order of urgency. LOCAL POLICE STATION. On the question of the erection of a police station at Putaruru, the Minister for Justice, the Hon. C. J. Parr, replied that the Department was at present renting suitable premises which answerecl requirements. The question of building would not be lost sight of. It was decided to reply expressing the hope that a police station would be built here at an early date now. MARRIAGE LICENSES. The Registrar-General advised, as on July 28, that he was giving his consideration to the request that the postmaster at Putaruru be appointed a registrar of marriages, as well as of births- and deaths. The secretary was instructed to inquire if he woul.fl advise the chamber of his decision as soon as possible.
