RAILWAY NEGOTIATIONS.
“ PISTOL PRESENTED AT COMPANY.” Chairman's Allegation. jr The chairman of the Taupo Totara L Timber Co., Mr. F. G. Daiziell, wrote | as follows, on Wednesday of last week, to the chairman of the Tokoroa Progress League:— ■ “ I am in receipt of your letter of | the 28th ult. The only comment I desire to make is to remind the members of your League that after | the passing of the 1922 legislation, L. representatives of the company attended a meeting of the Tokoroa settlers and explained the purpose of that legislation, which had been procured on our initiative with the concurrence of a meeting of settlers held in Putaruru in 1918. At the Tokoroa -meeting we urged that for the future t-he settlers should take (he initiative, as their influence with the authorites was greater than ours. Y" When the Railway Board was set up p it declined to discuss with us or the Government experts the basis of arrangement, signed by Messrs. Bullock and Cox in Wellington, and called jipon us to make fresh proposals. We declined to do this, as we agreed with the Government experts that the Wellington arrangement is the best course in the interests of all IT parties. We said, however, that we : ■ were prepared to consider any alter-:-J native proposals the Board liked to f put forward. “ Since that time the board has - kept a pistol presented at the comI panv threatening to sh’oot unless it ► ‘»*mded over fresh proposals that the I Board could hawk about in financial "circles. This is not the usual way I to an agreement.*’
