I'A rain gauge has been installed at the Putaruru school and records of H the rainfall are now being kept there. For the month of May, the guage registered a total of 9.03 inches ol rain. ." / The Church of England authorities at Putaruru have deckled to make an !&. effort to have electric light installed jyt in the church this winter, and are / arranging entertainments to raise the f ■'' sjttcessary money. s . . .. The Puketurua and Tokoroa dairy factories have now closed for the winter season. The supply lasted right to June, and altogether the past season has been a fairly satisfactory one. Up to mid-day on Monday quite three inches of rain had fallen at Matamata since 10 a.m. on Saturday. On the latter day all sports fixtures were postponed for the first time thi> although it was the seventh successive wet Saturday. Owing to the bad state of the roads HR (.fie Putaruru Ladies’ Glee Club has r" been reluctantly compelled to abandon its intention to give its' gala (J evening entertainment at Tirau and | ' Tokoroa. — The chib starts practice r gafiCut the middle of this month for its next concert. | With commendable promptitude the grader was on the Lichfield road last h Wednesday, three days after the f week’s fine weather began. The road was regraded, but the recurrence of wet weather on Saturday and since jk has made it very slushy again. How - p ever, with further fine weather the -benefit of the grading will probably T become apparent. The Putaruru golf links continue , to be very well patronised, and several competitions have been held of late. The ladies’ second monthly J medal was won by Mrs. Murphy and the men’s second by F. Tomalin.. A W- mixed foursome competition on the % King’s Birthday was won by Mrs. —Murphy and R. Knap, and an eclectic I competition last week-end by J. fk Murphy. It is stated that as a result of repRf resentations made by the local committee a further concession in the E cost to the shareholders of the Matamata glaxo factory has been L ' made. We understand that the pro"posais are for the factory to be conlOft.- T 1 for the manufacture of cheese T and to be taken over entirely by the New Zealand Co-op. Dairy Co. for the ■ Matamata shareholders, thus relievi ing the glaxo company of their glaxo agreement. A further meeting of suppliers will be held this week to i. discuss the matter. 1 The Huihuitaha bridge was opened for traffic last week, making the whole length of the new Putaruruj? Arapuni access road available. On Spy the part between the Waipa and the jjL Pokaiwhenua streams, which has been I sanded only, the traffic in the recent wet weather has rutted the roadway | rather badly. Mr. M. Henderson is B engaged metalling this gap, while at the Putaruru end Messrs. Hart and Brown have nearly completed the spreading of a second coat of Otoro- | hanga shingle on the first 21 miles of the road.
