STOCK SALES.
MORRINSVILLE. There was only a small yard in;.;* of j cattle at the Farmers’ Auctioneering | Co.’s Morrinsville sale on Friday* J The stock did not appear to b ■ of i first-class quality, and consequently the prices were not high. No steer beef was yarded. There were not many sheep in evidence, but those offered sold well. Eighteen draught horses sold on behalf of Messrs. Steele Bros., of Mamaku, weiu in good condition a.r.i there was keen bidding. The following arc- the prices:—Beef: Heavy fat cows, £G; fat cows, £ 1 to £5; forward cow;-, £2 to £3; store cows, £1 to £1 10s; heifer calves, 1.5 s to 255; steer calves, £.l to £1 7s Ul. Dairy stock: In-calf heifers, £4 to £1 ss. Sheep: Fat ewes, 2Gs to 27s 9d; forward hoggets, 18s 6d to 22s Gd. Pigs: Porkers, £1 15s to £2 3s; baconers, £2 14s to £3 I ss; store •porkers, 28s to 30s; slips, I 14s to 20s. SPECIAL HEIFER SALE. About 150 head of cattle, mostly heifers, were offered at the Farmers’ Auctioneering Co.’s special heifer sale on Monday, the prices being as follows: Cows, up to £8 15s, Jersey heifers up to £7, Holstein heifers up to £5 10s. A pedigree Holstein bull was sold for llgns. CLEARING SALE. Only a portion of Mr. J. Woods’ herd was sold at the clearing sale held on his behalf at his farm at Tatuanui by the Farmers’ Auctioneering Co. last week. The weather was at its worst, and the attendance was affected accordingly. A pedigree Friesian heifer brought j 21igns, and three pedigree cows in | the vicinity of 25gns apiece. A yearling Friesian bull brought 26gns. The grade cows sold from £2 to £9 10s. The grade calves sold well, one bringing £5 4s, and others £1 10s.
JERSEY SALE. At Marshlands, the Farmers’ Auctioneering Co., Ltd., held a sale of pedigree Jersey cattle on account of Mr. W. J. Chynoweth. The highest price registered (145gns) was for the 2-year Jersey heifer Marshland’s Forn’s Eminent, 19311, a daughter of one of the vendor’s high-*testing-dams. The purchasers were Messrs. Martin and Murray, Christchurch. Mr. A. E. Watkins, Takanini, gave 90gns for Marshlands Best. The same purchaser secured Marshlands Golden Lady at 72gns. The Islandbred cow, Golden Forn’s Maid, fell to Mr. W. H. Miers, Rukuhia, at 140gns. Mr. Waterhouse was the purchaser of Distinguished Lady at G7gns. Marshlands King Forn fell to Mr. A. C. Smith, Otorohanga, at 62gns. The average of the 12 heifers sold was 57g*ns. Of the cows sold apart from those mentioned above prices ranged from 20gns to 55g*ns. Of the 12 bulls offered only one was sold, Marshlands Victor, to Mr. W. T. Hutchinson, Patumahoe, for GOgns.
MILKING SHORTHORNS. At the sale at Matangi on Thursday of Messrs. Ran stead Bros.’ milking’ Shorthorn cattle, conducted by the Farmers’ Auctioneering Co., the highest figure registered was Gogns for the bull Matangi Gertrude’s Prince, which was secured by J. De la Haye, Woodville. Mr. J. Taylor, Cambridge, purchased Matangi Frederick 14th at 40gns and Matangi Frederick 12th at SGgns. Matangi Glaxo 10th went at 33gns to J. Heresey, Palmerston North; Matangi Esau 7th at 30gns to J. Leamy, Ashurst; Matangi Fredrick 15th at 30gns to R. Shepherd, Wellsford; Matangi Esau Bth at 27gns to J. R. Anderson, Palmerston North. The average of the bulls sold was close on SOgns per head. Amongst the heifers the most highly valued proved to be Matangi Clara sth, which was purchased at 32gns by Jas. Taylor, Cambridge. Matangi Sunshine 7th fell to the same purchaser at SOgns. Matangi Mildred 6th went at 25gns to H. Mandeno, Hairini. Other purchases in this class were made by A. D. Bell (Clevedon), W. C. Dellcr (Carterton), E. H. Jull (Te Rapa), W. Alexander and C. S. Alexander (Te Awamutu).
