STOCK SALES.

CLEARING SALE. A clearing sale was held at Patetonga on Thursday by Dalgety and Company on behalf of Mr. W. W. Wilshere but bidding was far from brisk. Cows realised from £2 to £7 10s, dairy heifers from £2 10s to £5 10s, and farm horses from £lO to £ls. MORRINSVILLE. The boisterous weather conditions interfered with the attendance at the Farmers’ Auctioneering Company’s stock sale at Morrinsville on Friday, with the result that bidding was not as keen as it might have been. There was a fair yarding, beef cattle being penned in large numbers. There was a slight decrease in the values of fat steers but a slight improvement in those of fat cows over the rates ruling at the previous sale held in Morrinsville by the company. Sheep prices showed little alteration, but pigs, which were penned in large numbers, showed a decline. The prices are:—Beef: Fat steers, £9 to £3O 6s; lighter sorts, £6 10s to £8; heavy fat cows, £6 4s to £7; lighter, £4 10s to £5 10s; forward cows, £2 10s to £3 ss; store cows, £1 to £1 15s; springing Shorthorn heifers, £6 10s; 18-months in-calf heifers, fair quality, £2 6s; a pen of extra good Jersey calves, £3 9s; other Jersey heifer calves, 29s to 375; smaller sorts, 17s to 225; Shorthorn calves, 8s to 17s; bulls, potters, up to £4 7s 6d. Sheep: Fat wethers, 38s; fat ewes, 26s Id; fat sheep, 28s 9d; store wethers, 295; fresh ewes, 21s 3d. Pigs: Pork, £2; g*ood slips, 31s to 325; smaller, 235; weaners, 7s to 15s; sows in pig, £3 15s. WAIKATO MARKET REPORT. The Farmers’ Auctioneering Co. report under date May 10: Beef has not maintained the buoyancy remarked upon in our last report. Good yardings are noticeable everywhere, cow beef especially being very plentiful. Mutton has not shown much alteration. Values are still firm.

Store cattle: Little improvement is apparent in the store cattle market, competition for all classes lacking spirit. Grown steers are the subject of fair enquiry, but the failure of the turnip crops must limit competition for the class. The export companies are still in a position to deal with forward conditioned cows and w-tthin their limits are consistent purchasers. Young steers are now so scarce that it is not possible to report. The inquiry for such, however, is not strong. The turn of the wheel still shows an unfriendly disposition towards the dairy section. Very considerable stocks are on hand and many would welcome inquiry. Calves still remain unpopular except for occasional choice lots.

Store sheep are everywhere in keen demand, all classes tending to advance. Many good sales of ewes in lamb are reported. Pigs: All fat pigs offering are quickly absorbed. It is worthy of notice that this class is from 15s to 20s per head more valuable than at the same period last year. It seems evident that dairymen will turn their attention more extensively to this branch in the season to come. Horses: There is a constant enquiry for heavy draughts suitable for city work, but for other classes the demand is not strong. We quote as follows:

Bullocks, heavy prime £9 10s to £ll ss, medium £7 10s to £8 10s; cows, heavy £5 10s to £7, medium £4 to £5 ss, forward £3 to £3 15s, stores £1 5s to £2; steers, 3 £ -year forward £5 to £5 10s, stores £4 to £4 15s, 2£»year best Shorthorn £3 10s to £4, 2iyear medium Shorthorn £2 15s to £3 ss; 18-months steers, best £2 5s to £2 12s 6d, medium £1 15s to £2 2s 6d; wethers, prime heavy shorn 36s to £2, prime medium shorn 32s to 34s 6d; ewes, prime heavy .shorn 24s to 27s Gd; store wethers, 4-tooth shorn 28s to 31s, 2-tooth shorn 24s to 275; ewes in lamb, 5 years 24s to 28s, s.m. 18s to 22s 6d; lambs, forward 19s to £1 Is; store lambs, good 17s to 19s, medium 16s to 17s, small 10s to 13s.
