STOCK SALES.

WAIKATO MARKET REPORT. The Farmers’ Auctioneering Co. re port under date April 29:

Beef: There has been a rather better tone in the beef market during the past week or so, little difficulty being experienced in effecting a clearance at the various centres. Mutton is -firm at late values. The tendency is to advance. Store Cattle: There is not a very strong demand for store cattle, although there is again evidence of improvement in grown steers. This class which was prominent for a time is not now much in evidence, and \ its absence naturally causes enquiry. Some good lines are expected at the turnip fairs, and no doubt competition will be met with. Female stock with the exception of cows, for which there is fair demand, still proves unpopular; indeed, business in this line is more than sluggish. Store Sheep: A good enquiry still exists for store sheep, but small yardings are the rule. Wethers are being sought after and from indications good lines of ewes in lamb would meet with a good reception. Pigs: Up till the date of the railway strike the demand for fat pigs was excellent, but cessation of trains has made it impossible for buyers from a distance to operate. This branch is therefore at a standstill.
