OVER THE RAMS.
CARS STUCK IN MUD. Morrinsville Residents’ Return. Morrinsville residents who were in Auckland when the strike commenced, and who travelled home via Hamilton have amusing- tales to tell of thenexperiences over the notorious Rang-i----l-ii-is. Travelling facilities were offered by car and motoi- bus, the fares ranging from £1 to £2 from Auckland to Hamilton, and the journey oc —- pied from seven to nine hours. The travellers all appeared to he in good spirits and despite the rough roads and the slow travelling- which was necessary at some parts all appeared to enjoy the novelty of long distance travelling by passenger motors. At the middle of the week the Rangiriris were in a fairly bad state, and the eleven miles or l-oad took, in some instances, nearly four hours to traverse. Motor cars and busses got stuck in the mud and the drivers with boots off and trousers rolled up knee deep in mud were seen working furiously trying to dig their cars out, while behind a stranded vehicle were others waiting- till the road was clear. The driver of one bus which contained a couple of Morrinsville people did not know the road and it ivas marvellous that he did not. once take the wrong turning and on only one occasion did he ask for direction.
Owing- bad state of the Rangiriris during the last days of the strike motor lorries from Auckland were running only as far as Mercer, where the passeng-ers are taken to Huntly by boat, being- taken by Hamilton busses for the remainder of the journey.
