ASSISTANCE DURING STRIKE.

TO KEEP ROADS OPEN. At Monday’s meeting of the Piako County Council the engineer, Mr. W. J. Gibbs, reported that an official of the Public Works Department had been in the county inspecting the main Thames-Waikato road and had advised that the department would be prepared to assist the council in keeping the main road open for the duration of the railway strike. It was decided to write to the Public Works Department asking what percentage of the cost it was prepared to pay in connection with the maintenance of the main road.
