STOCK SALES.
MATAMATA. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., held its usual sale at Matamata on Wednesday. There was only a moderate yarding and the number of buyers attending was not particularly large. Prices were as follow:—Store cows, £1 5s to £2 15s; Jersey heifers (weaners), £2; 18-months empty heifers, 11 8s; bulls, 15s. A pen of steer calves brought 15s per head. Dairy cows, springing, £8 10s. There were no sheep. Pigs: Weaners, 7s Gd to 10s; slips, 11s to 19s Gd. •WESTFIELD. At the Westfield sale on Wednesday prime ox realised about last week’s rates, but other clasces were a trifle lower. There was slight drop in the prices of sheep. 1 nibs sold freely at ruling rates. Calves were steady. A small yarding of pigs sold at rates slightly better than last week’s. HAMILTON. At the Farmers’ Auctioneering Co.’s Hamilton sale on Tuesday there was a good entry of all classes of stock, the bulk of which was cleared. Sheep were again in strong- demand. Fat ewes made to 27s Gd; fat lambs 21s 5d to 25s 6d; forward lambs 18s to 20s; store lambs 13s Id. Competition for breeding ewes was fair, but in some cases did nsot reach vendors’ valuations. Lines sold made up to 19s 3d for sound mouth. The beef pens were well filled and in consequence competition was slightly duller than the previous week. Steers made from £9 5s to £lO 16s; best cows £5 to £7 8s; medium weights £3 10s to £4 10s. Good lines of grown steers were submitted and fair competition followed these throughout, although on a rather lower basis to recent sales. The best made to £6 5s from £5 12s; low conditioned £4 15s; 18 month steers sold under good bidding up to £2 15s; small and offcoloured yearling steers 27s to 37s Gd; cows and calves £3 8s; store cows from £1 5s to £2 13s for meaty sorts. Pigs sold under better bidding, baconers making up to £4 7s; light weights £3 to £3 10s; porkers best up to £3 2s, light weights £2 5s to £2 12s Gd; store pigs showed a marked improvement, slips making to 28s; weaners from 11s to JGs.
