RUGBY FOOTBALL.
PUTARURU UNION. Competition Starts on May 3. This week’s meeting of the management committee of the Putaruru Rugby Union was held on Monday evening. Ten members were present, namely, Messrs. J. Barr Brown (chairman), Ashford (secretary), F. Phillips (executive), F. Woolliams and C. Morton (Te Whetu club), M. Henderson (Rovers), W. Dunlop (Tokoroa), H. Leslie (Waotu), S. C. Snell (referees’ association) and G. E. Martin (United). The Waikato Rugby Union advised that the annual meeting was beingheld in Hamilton on Wednesday evening of this week. It was resolved that the chairman and Mr. Snell attend the meeting on behalf of the Putaruru union, they particularly to have the question as to whether the Patetere club is within the boundaries of the Matamata or Putaruru union dealt with and to oppose any increase in the fee for affiliation to the Waikato union or any levy by that body on representative matches between its constituent unions. Mr. L. W. W. Brown, of Hamilton, and Mr. Hamilton, of Frankton, were appointed to act on the Waikato union for the Putaruru union whenever delegates were not sent from Putaruru.
Mr. Snell reported that the local referees’ association was meeting on the following evening, and wished a representative of the Putaruru union to be present. Mr. Ashford was appointed to attend. It was resolved to inquire whether a firm in Auckland would accept accident insurance on the union’s players for the forthcoming season. Arrangements were completed for the union’s presentation social tomorrow evening, Messrs. C. D. Brown and F. Woolliams being appointed M.’sC., Messrs. Henderson and Ashford being appointed the doorkeepers, it being decided to engage a band to play the dance music, -jfjnd the secretary being deputed tp order the supper.
It was decided that the union’s competition this season start on Saturday, May 3, and that the matter of the draw be deferred until the next meeting.
It was resolved that the' management committee meetings Jbe held in future each Wednesday evening, commencing at S p.m. . It was agreed that the executive be empowered to accept nomination of junior teams from existing clubs. TE WIIETU CLUB. The annual meeting of the Tc Whetu club was held last Thursday evening. Mr. C. Norton was elected secretary, but as the attendance was poor it was resolved that the meeting be adjourned until this week. A letter has been received by the Matamata Union from the Waikato Union re the Matamata and Putaruru boundary question. The letter bears out the contention of the Matamata union that the boundary is direct east and west of Taumangi railway station. The Putaruru union has apparently been confused by a letter from its Hamilton delegate to the Waikato union in which the boundaries are erroneously stated.
