Now that the season 1023-24 lias | advanced so far, comparisons with former seasons are interesting. Although the months of January and February were drier this year than the two previous years, and records for those months for the season being naturally lower than the preceding ones, indications point to the average per cow for the year being higher, than ever before. One thing very noticeable this year is the number of cows which have already reached the 3001 b butter-fat mark or thereabouts. The number of cows over the 3001 b butter-fat mark is also well ahead of previous years. Of individual cows special mention might be made of a Jersey-Shorthorn cross cow* owned by Mr. W. H. Barton, of Okauia. This animal is eight years of age and calved on November 23, 1023. For the thirty-seven days ending December 30 she produced 115.9lb butter-fat, averaging 47.51 b of milk with a test of G. 6. Owing to having met with a . slight accident just prior to her test being taken her January average was reduced, being 105.71 b of milk, test G, butter-fat 71.81 b. Her February average in spite of the dry spell shows a recovery, the record being 0001 b milk, test 0.7, butter-fat 87.31 b. Total for 07 days, 2751 b butte v-f at.
