the march meeting. The Thames Valley Electric Power Board met at Te Aroha on Tuesday, there being: present:—Messrs. F. H. Claxton (chairman), F. E. Flatt, W. E G. Wiliey, G. Howie, J. Pohlen, J. W. McCormick, J. W. Anderson, J. B. Thomas, F. M. Strange, C. A. Arthur and P. Grace. An apology was tendered on behalf of Mr. J. Price. LEGAL CHARGES FOR LOAN. -Messrs. Chapman, Skerrett, Tripp and Blair submitted tljeir legal charges, amounting to £132 6s 6d, in connection with the raising of fTo,OOO loan from the A.M.P. Society. Mr. Flatt: That’s over the rails. It’s the hottest thing I’ve ever struck. It is out of all proportion to the amount of work done. It was suggested that a reduction should be applied for. It was decided to defer the matter \1i!l (he next meeting, the A.M.P. Society to he approached in the meantime in an endeavour to have the sclicitors’ charges reduced. TRANSFER WANTED. Mr. A. E. Gee, Tauhei, applied for a transfer from the Thames Valley Board’s district to the Central Power Board. lie was at least a mile from the present line, his property being on the confiscation line between the PiaP.o and Waikato counties. The Central Board was at present constructing a line running past his property and was prepared to supply him with power if the Thames Valley Board would give the necessary transfer. It was stated that in other eases people in such a position could use •h the power from another Board pro- * vk!i;ig that when the Thames Valley supply was. available on that property the supply should be taken from that Board. Mr. Thomas said that Mr. Gee had informed him that near his place on 24 miles of road there was about 12 farms which would take the power. Mr. Thomas thought that before making a decision on the matter enquiries should be made regarding that line being a payable proposition. It -was decided that a canvass should be made of that area if the j prospects were encouraging. DEFECTIVE TRANSFORMER. Five settlers oh the Awaiti West road, Netherton, wrote petitioning for a reduction on the present quarter’s account for electricity on account of having a defective transformer installed on the road, causing the reversion to hand milking through lack of sufficient power. The chairman stated that the transformer had been overloaded, but he did not think that the Board could niake any reduction in the charge. The Aoai-d had not guaranteed a continuous supply. The manager said that the trouble nearly always occurred during the peak load. It was decided to express the regrets of tlie Board in the matter and advise that a new transformer had been installed. INSECTS IN TIMBER. The Department of Agriculture, biology section, wrote stating that it had received the specimen of hardwood timber for analysis, the result of which would be forwarded as soon as completed. ACCOUNTS FOR PAYMENT. -Al Accounts amounting to £7643 9s lid were passed for payment: LIGHT FOR BOWLING, a recent application from the Paeroa Borough Council that there should be a reduction of charges for the lighting of the bowling green for night play, Mr. Flatt said that the dairy factories got a reduction of power after a certain hour, so why should not the howling club have the same reduction. He suggested that a time switch be installed so that a cheap rate would commence at 9 p.m., no light to be used on the long night. The engineer recommended that the cheap rate commence at 9.30. This would effect a saving of Is 3d per night to the bowlers. The chairman said that any arrangements they should make for one place should he applicable elsewhere. Mr. Flatt moved that reduced charges shquld be given for the bowling club, to take effect from 9.30 o’clock each evening. Mr. Strange said that the idea of reductions was to bring on consumers who would not otherwise use the power. In this case it would not give Iny more consumers. Mr. Thomas complained that some of the settlers had been put to considerable trouble through delays in installing motors as information regarding the size of the pulleys had been unobtainable. He thought that those installing motors should be provided with this information. On the suggestion of Mr. Strange it was decided that the officials should forward to the office the information on which to base an estimate of the size of the pulleys required and then the information to be supplied to the applicants for the installation of motors. COMPLETING A CANVASS. Mr. Thomas said that the canvass of Milliken’s and Starkey’s roads had been authorised for some time. He asked when that would be done. The engineer reported that the canvass of these roads had been commenced but had not been completed. This work would be completed 1 shortly.
