ASSOCI ATI ON FORMED. To Function Next- Season. A meeting of the delegate., from the jour cricket clubs in the Putaruru district was held in the commercial mom of the Putaruru Hotel on Saturday ait e/noon to consider the question of forming a cricket association l *ioi the district, in accordance with the resolution of the delegates’ meeting of a fortnight before. Those present were: Dr. East and Mr. J. Kimbei (Putaruru club), Messrs. C. E. Hollard and Macown (Selwyn), It. McKee and J. O. Pettit (Te Whetu) and T. Lupin and V. Father (Waotu). Dr. East acted as chairman and Mr. Pettit as secretary. In reply to Mr. Lupin, the secretary stated that all the clubs had complied with the requirements that they forward their list of financial members to him for the present seasen’s- competition. The advantages of forming an association were discussed, questions being asked and answered. Mr. McKee moved, Mr. Lupin seconded, and it was carried unanimously, that the four clubs form a Putaruru Cricket Association, which should take charge of the cricket in the district as from the beginning of next season, and which should affiliate in turn with the Waikato Association. Mr. Lupin suggested that a copy of the Waikato Association’s rules be obtained for the guidance of the Putaruru Association in framing its own rules and affiliating* with the Waikato Association. The suggested was adopted. Dr. East intimated that he could probably obtain a copy of the Auckland Association’s rules., too. On the motion of Messrs. Ilollard and Macown the secretary was deputed to call a meeting* of two delegates from each club for the first week in August to elect officers for the association and generally transact association business, any new cJub formed meanwhile within 12 miles of Putaruru to also send delegates. It was decided tnat the clubs be asked to each appoint one delegate to comprise a committee, which should meet after the receipt of copies of the rules from outside associations and draw up suggested rules to bo submitted to the meeting m August. Messrs. Hollard, Lupin, Pettit and Dr. East were appointed a match committee to arrange ihe re-play of any unfinished matches in this sea sen’s competition and deal with any (other such matters arising from the competition. Mr. Pettit was enthusiastically appointed to continue as secretary until the August meeting.

THE SHIELD COMPETITION. END OF FIRST ROUND. The first round in the Leggatt Shield competition was concluded during the week end. TE WHETU v. PUTARURU. Putaruru played Te Whetu at Te Whetu, and the match resulted in a win for Te Whetu hy 42 runs. Owing to the lain arrival of the visiting tejjm, it was agreed to play until 6 |i.m. if necessary, and an immediate adjouiVuneni was made for lunch. The game was commenced at 12.30 p.m., Putaruru winning the toss and electing to take the field. With an hour and a-half left to play, Putaruru commenced their second innings, but the side was disposed of in half an hour, giving the home team their first win for the season. M. Butler and J. Martin were the umpires. WAOTU V. SELWYN. Selwyn met Waotu on Waoiu’s ground and a most exciting game resulted. At the end of the first innings Selwyn led by 23 runs. This* state 01 affairs put the Waotu team on their mettle and they commenced the second innings with a fixed determination to even matters up. Towards the end of Waotu’s second innings the excitement was intense, especially when the scores were level and still two men to go in. The excitement seemed to prove too much for the batsmen, however, and the visiting bowlers beat them, the match ending in a draw. The visitors were entertained to lunch by the Waotu club and in the afternoon the Waotu ladies, with their customary hospitality, provided afternoon tea on a lavish scale, all present, numbering* nearly 200, being provided for.
