ELECTRIC POWER WORKS.
IN THAMES VALLEY. Reports of Progress, The progress of the works in Bi 2 Thames Valley Electric Power Board's area was outlined in reports submitted to Tuesday’s meeting- by Hie engineers (Messrs. Gauvain and McLeod) and by the manager (Mr. IT. Sprague). The reports are as follow: ' MANAGER’S REPORT. Transformers. Advice .has now been received that ths transformers that are weeks overdue should arrive in Auckland on the 6th. The position is very unsatisfactory owing to no spares being available and quite a number of transformers require changing. It is anticipated that these will be in operation by March 1. Telephones.—Telephones are now being- installed over the area. The high-tension telephones are being used at Matamata and Morrinsville, which makes the board’s own tele T phone service complete throughout the area. Poles.—The Louis Theriault with a further load of poles should commence loading from Newcastle on the 11th and should arrive at Ivopu not later than March 20. We are in need of 30ft poles for the Morrinsville district but can keep going- until the arrival of the Theriault. The last two shipments of poles are the best yet received by the board as regards quality and value. Shut Down.—During the month of December notification was received from, the electrical engineer of proposed shut downs 'by the department on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, December 27, 28 and 20, between the hours of 4,30 and 5.30 p.m. This \yas considered most unreasonable and inconsiderate on their part and it was suggested to them that the shut down should operate at 6.30 p.m. in order that the farmers’ milking should not be interfered with. The engineer refused to consider the board’s request, and on the position being- placed before the Hon. Minister for Public Works and the chief electrical engineer by the chairman you are now assured of being considered with regard to further shut downs. ENGINEERS’ REPORT. Tirau-Waiomo. The low-tension wiring on the high-tensio* poles has been completed on this section, the service lines finished and transformer equipment erected., A supply was given on December 15 up to Gubb’s corner and since then another two miles of pole line has been completed.
