COMPETITION RULES. ! ! , . Delegates’ Decisions. A meeting* of delegates from fine four formed clubs .in the district was held o'! Saturday, with the object of drawing* up rules for the shield competition this season. There were present: Tbs donor of the shield (Mr. A. G. Leggatt), and the following j delegates: Mr. S. C. Snell ami Dr. East (Putaruru), Messrs. C. E. Hoilard and J. Knowles (Selwyn), V. Eat her and T. Lukin (Waotu) and J. O. Pettit and R. McKee (Te Whetu). Mr. Leggatt was appointed chairman of tli3 meeting and Mr. Pettit secretary. Mr. Lukin, as convenor, explained the business of the meeting, and appreciation of Mr. Leggatt’s gift was expressed by ail delegates, the donor being the recipient of the thanks of all present. A discussion ensued upon the point of forming* a district cricket associa-# tion, and it was finally decided that; the fceaspn; had progressed so far now that it was impossible to form such a body to take control of cricket affairs for this season, hut a meeting of delegates from the clubs be held in a fortnight’s time to set the association on foot for next season. A remit from the Putaruru club was submitted, as follows: “That the Putaruru club suggest the formation of a cricket association on sound constitutional lines to control cricket in the district; also that competition for the shield be postponed till next season, 1924-25, when the cricket association would be in working* order.” The majority of delegates present were of the opinion that :it would be a pity, as there was '.now the shield for competition, not to play for same this season, and all delegates present voiced their opinions. It was moved bv Mr. Ho Hard, seconded by Mr. McKee, that the delegates present form themselves into a governing body to .govern and control the shield matches for the season .1923-24 only, and this

was carried. The following rules were then adopted, after being fully discussed. (1) That the trophy shall be know i as the Leggatt Challenge Shield. (2) That the Te Whetu, Waotu, Selwyn, and Putaruru clubs, and any other club that may he formed within a 12 mile radius of Putaruru shall be eligible for the competition. (3) That the shield be competed for annually, the winning* team’s name to be inscribed on shield each year, that team to hold same for 1.2 months. (4) That competitive matches shall commence from January 27, 1924. An amendment by the Selwyn delegates that matches do not commence before February 3 was lost. (5) That all clubs competing* shall meet each of their opponents twice during* the season, the winners of the greatest number of matches being declared the holders of the shield for the on- , suing* 12 months. A remit from the Te Whetu club that the method of counting* should be three points for a win by an innings, two points for a bare .win on a two inning’s match, and one point each for a draw, was defeated by five votes to three. A motion by Mr. Hoi lard that a drawn game be counted half a win to each team was also lost. It was moved by Mr. Lukin, seconded by Mr. Eather, that m +he case of a drawn or unfinished game the match shall be played over again on a date to be decided by a match committee.—This was carried. It was resolved that all matches should consist of two innings, matches should commence at 10.30 a.m., with an hour interval for lunch, stumps should be drawn at 5 p.m., and failing the completion of two innings by both sides, the match should be declared won on the firstinnings.

It was also agreed that no team should be ordered to forfeit a match which it may be drawn to play on account of delay or hindrance by bad weather, provided both teams agree to play the said match at a later date, which should be decided by the management committee of the governing body. Further rules were adopted as follows: “ That, all players participating after the first registration list has been supplied shall be bona fide and financial members of their respective clubs for at least fourteen days prior to any match (except in the case of transfer), and that lists of financial members of each club must be supplied by club secretaries to the governing* body. “ That no player shall be a member of two clubs at the same time under the jurisdiction of the Putaruru governing* body. Should a player, changing his place of residence, wish to transfer to any other club under the jurisdiction of the Putaruru governing body, he shall be allowed to do so immediately with his club's permission.” Mr. Pettit was requested to act as

:-rcvctary pro tem to the Putaruru governing- body until a permanent scretary was appointed, and that the various secretaries of clubs he asked to hand to him forthwith their lists of financial members, the lists to be supplied not later than February 3, 1924. THE DRAW. The following draw was made and fixed for the first round:— January 27: Selwyn v. Tc Whetu. at Man ga tap u; Waotu a-. Put arum, at Putaruru. February 3: Waotu v. Te Whetu, at Waotu; Selwyn v. Putaruru, at Putaruru. February 10: Te Whetu v. Putarurii, at Te Whetu; Selwyn v. Waotu. at Waotu. It was agreed that the second round should also follow tlii r : order, but the grounds in each case should be reversed. THE SHIELD COMPETITION.
