METALLING LOAN.
THE £IO,OOO SCHEME. Work Commenced. The formation of the Putaruru end of the Tirau-Putaruru road to its permanent levels from the Oraka bridge to the Putaruru post office, which work is now in hand under contract, marks the commencement of expenditure under the Putaruru-Tokoroa roads metalling loan of £IO,OOO. The portion of the loan allocated to this length of road—approximately one mile—is £IOOO, which is augmented to £2OOO by a Government subsidy, the total to cover the permanent formation and metalling of the length. The contractor, Mi*. M. Henderson, states that the formation work will be carried through in such a manner as to leave the road open for traffic as long as possible during the course of the job, and he hopes it will not be found necessary to close it all. The next work under the loan is to be the expenditure of the £2OOO allocated for metalling the roads leading to the Pukelurua cheese factory, the county engineer having reported that he is calling for tenders for this work this month.
