Messrs Logan and McNeil were the Hiiccessf.il tenderers for the bush-felling at the Special Settlement advertised by Mr Reese. Kedcole Ims been successful in obtaining 122 signatures to the petition praying Government to erect a Post Office on a central site. The petition will he presented by Mr McCardle while in W elllDglon. The Joint Temperanco Cominitteo of Woodville are working very actively to make Mr Burnett's mission a great success. The mission opens next Saturday with a reception and torch-light procession. The lectures will be continued on Hunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Mr Haggen has disposod of his book and stationery business at Woodville to Mr L. H. Wilson, of Carterton. A public meeting was held at the Templurs* Hall last night to consider tho advisability of forming a joint stock company to take over the present hall, and if necessary to so enlarge it as to make it useful fur all purposes. Mr Reese occupied the clmir. After a considerable amount of discussion, it was on the motion of Mr J. Robinson, seconded by Mr 11. SeJcolc, resolved thst a company be formed; and the following committoe was appointed to make the necessary arrangements, and report to a public meeting Messrs Gregory, Wakeman, Crewe, McCardle, Bauckc, Reese, A. W. Sedcole, Mackenzie, Yeats, Burrows, Yule, Wiles, Naylor, Gelderd, Godfrey, and Black. The following tenders have been received by the Public Works Department for the Wellington-Woodville railway (Wiwuka contract) : Accepted Mr Datiaher, Auckland; £60,500. Declined —J. We remind ratepayers of the Town Board election which takes place on Friday. It was thought at one time that some of the candidates would have withdrawn to prevent an election ; however thin was not done, and the whole twelve will now go t« the jvoll. Frederick May hew, formerly second master of the Blenheim Borough School, has been committed for trial on the charge of embezzling the funds of the Spring Creek Rifles, of which he was captain. He reserved his defence. Messrs Briggs and Gibbs announce that their next slock sale will tsko place on Saturday, I6th September. Entries are solicited. As the committee of the Parliamentary Union Ball wihh to ascertain the number likely to be present, members are requested to furnish the names of tho ladies they wish invited. A meeting of the committee will lie held on Saturday to receive the names. Messrs Ish-s A Hicks insert a notice in this issue. Owing to Mr Matthew Burnett delaying his intended visit to Woodville for anuther week, the Re\. James Wrigley was prevented from holding an evening service at Pahiatua last Sunday as was announced in our last issue. Mr Burnett was to have relieved Mr Wrigley at Woodvilli-, mid so Lave allowed him to hold serv ice here. A meeting of all those tvho ore interested in the erection of a Free Methodist Church in this township is to he held on Friday evening next, at 7 o'clock, in the lhiblic Hall. As the want of a church has been keenly felt, we hope the project »ill meet with every success. A singular death has occurred at Ta]xxnui. V boy while going through a paddiak fell down dead.
